![]() There was a time I had to cross some electrified water. I also really like being able to play in a way that seems logical: I love the little rewards for exploration (you get a “traveller” or “explorer” XP bonus for finding hidden passageways and rooms) and achievements for convincing NPCs and completing side quests. I’ve managed to get the “ghost” and “smooth operator” bonuses a few times and it feels really rewarding. There’s also a decent amount of options for how to approach combat and how you customize your gear before a mission. The shooting feels tight and actually feels like a valid strategy, especially for stealth, rather than pushing you into non-lethal like MGS or splinter cell. I think it was sort of drowned-out by the other releases around that time (MW2/MW3, Halo Reach, Gears 3, BF3, Skyrim, Dark Souls. I remember hearing a lot of buzz about it when it came out and having friends that played it, but I slept on it. Yeah, this game is 8 years old and still feels pretty good to play. It holds up remarkably well for a game from 2011 so like 2 or 3 years ag-wait. I didn’t play the first one, nor system shock, and I don’t really like “0451” games generally (I really didn’t like Dishonoured or Prey)īut hot damn, I’m glad I tried DE:HR. I didn’t think I’d like it as much as I did. I’m not finished yet so no spoilers please!
